Our client is a global provider of data center, colocation, and interconnection solutions, supporting enterprise customers across a worldwide portfolio of facilities. Training supports a technically sophisticated, globally distributed audience that includes operations, sales, engineering, and corporate functions.

They are seeking an experienced instructional designer to work as a 1099 contract consultant on a blended curriculum, including both self-paced eLearning and instructor-led training (ILT). The consultant will move fluidly between authoring interactive online modules and producing polished facilitator and participant materials.

This is a hands-on design and development role. The consultant will partner with subject matter experts (SMEs) and the client's learning team to take content from through design, development, review cycles, and final delivery.

Responsibilities

Analysis and design

  • Partner with stakeholders to gather, clarify, and validate content for both eLearning and ILT deliverables.
  • Write measurable learning objectives and build design documents, outlines, and storyboards for stakeholder approval.
  • Apply adult learning principles and sound instructional design models (ADDIE, SAM, Bloom's taxonomy, Mager objectives) to structure content for retention and transfer.

eLearning development

  • Build interactive, self-paced modules in Articulate Storyline 360 — including variables, triggers, branching scenarios, custom interactions, knowledge checks, and scored assessments.
  • Develop responsive web-based courses in Articulate Rise 360, using blocks, interactive elements, and embedded media appropriately.
  • Design and produce supporting media: graphics, screen captures, simple animations, audio narration scripts, and video segments.
  • Publish courses to SCORM/xAPI standards, upload to the LMS, and test for tracking, completion, and cross-browser/device performance.
  • Ensure courses meet accessibility standards (Section 508 / WCAG 2.1 AA), including alt text, closed captions, keyboard navigation, and readable color contrast.

Instructor-led training development

  • Build presentation decks in Microsoft PowerPoint at an advanced level — custom templates, slide masters and layouts, theme colors and fonts, and custom graphics, animation and transition sequencing, and speaker notes.
  • Produce facilitator guides, participant workbooks, job aids, and reference materials in Microsoft Word at an advanced level.
  • Develop classroom activities, exercises, case studies, discussion guides, role plays, and knowledge checks that translate to both in-person and virtual delivery.
  • Create virtual instructor-led (vILT) versions where needed.

Quality, review, and delivery

  • Manage review cycles with SMEs and stakeholders; consolidate feedback and revise efficiently across multiple rounds.
  • Maintain version control and organized source files so the client can update materials after the engagement ends.
  • Proofread and quality-check all deliverables for accuracy, consistency, brand alignment, and functionality before release.
  • Track progress against the project plan and flag risks or scope changes early.

Requirements

Tools — must be advanced level in the following: 

  • Articulate Storyline 360 -Comfortable building from a blank slide, using variables and conditional logic, custom states, and reusable templates.
  •  Articulate Rise 360 -Able to structure a course well and know when Rise is and is not the right tool.
  • Microsoft PowerPoint -Slide masters, custom layouts, theme design, graphic manipulation, animation sequencing, and accessible deck construction. Portfolio should show ILT decks built for classroom use, not just content dumps.
  • Microsoft Word –Styles, templates, automated TOCs, complex tables, section breaks, and professional document layout for facilitator and participant guides.

Experience

  • 5+ years of instructional design and development experience in a corporate environment, with a portfolio spanning both eLearning and instructor-led training.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in a remote, consultative capacity — self-directed, responsive, and able to manage deliverables with limited oversight.
  • Proven success working with SMEs to extract and structure technical or complex content.
  • Strong writing and editing skills, including the ability to write clearly for a technical audience.
  • Experience publishing to and troubleshooting within an LMS.
  • Bachelor's degree in instructional design, education, communications, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Experience in data centers, critical facilities, telecommunications, technology, or another technical B2B industry, is preferred.
  • Media production skills with tools such as: Camtasia, Vyond, Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, Photoshop, Premiere, Audition), or Canva, is preferred.
  • Experience designing for a global audience, including localization-ready content and culturally neutral examples, is preferred.

Timeline: October 1- December 31, with options to extend likely. 
Location: 100% virtual
Schedule: Full-Time; 40hrs/week; must be able to work EST business hours.
Pay Rate: $45/hr 1099
